When Your Doctor Is Busy: Urgent Care Clinics Offer Routine And Emergency Services

Posted on

It isn't always easy to schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor. If you find yourself needing some medical care but you don't want to sit for hours at the emergency room, an urgent care clinic can provide you with the care you need without the wait. While your primary care doctor might be the best choice, finding time to meet with your physician can be difficult. When you need the convenience of a walk-in facility without having to worry about making an appointment, an urgent care clinic is an excellent option.

Routine Care When Your Doctor is Busy

You don't have to be in crisis to go to an urgent care clinic. In fact, many people go to an urgent care clinic simply because it is more convenient than going to their primary care physician. You can go to an urgent care center for a physical if you find yourself needing one quickly for work, and treatment at urgent care centers can include x-rays and IV fluids. Many people go to an urgent care center when they are in need of a physical or physician's note for work and their primary care doctor can't fit them into their schedule for months.

Urgent Care Doesn't Replace Your Doctor

It's important to remember that going to the urgent care clinic does not replace your regular physician. Patients who go to an urgent care clinic in order to have prescriptions filled are likely to be turned down. You need to be monitored by a primary care physician when it comes to your medications, and urgent care centers are not the place to go to have your prescriptions filled.

When You're Bleeding, Head to Urgent Care

While an urgent care facility is not going to have a surgical suite, most lacerations can be handled at urgent care. You can end up waiting for hours in an emergency room with gauze on your cut, waiting to be stitched up. If you are bleeding and you are able to get to an urgent care facility, this is your best choice as you won't have to wait as long. When you have a laceration, you just want to get comfortable. An urgent care facility will get you stitched up and send you home much faster than if you went to an ER.

With the convenience of urgent care centers, there is no need for you to call ahead. If you are sick or injured and you can't make an appointment with your primary doctor, it's time to visit you local urgent care center.
