How You Can Use A Soup Can To Treat Your Case Of Plantar Fasciitis

Posted on

Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia ligament that runs under the bottom of your foot from the heel to the base of your toes becomes irritated and inflamed. Treatment usually includes anti-inflammatory steroidal and pain medications to control the inflammation and the pain, but you can also use a can of soup to massage the ligament to make it feel better. Massaging the ligament will loosen the tissue so it becomes relaxed and will also increase the amount of blood flow through the ligament to help it heal faster. If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis and want to use an alternative method to treat your condition, here is how a can of soup will help you.

The Cause

The cause of plantar fasciitis is a tightening of the plantar fascia ligament and you need to loosen it to relieve the tightness. The plantar fascia ligament is located in the deep tissue on the underside of your foot and you need something round and hard to press your foot down on to reach it.

Can of Soup

An unopened can of soup is round and hard and fits well under the arch of your foot so you can reach the entire length of the plantar fascia ligament. A can of soup is also small enough to fit in a purse or lunch bag so you can take it to work and massage your foot while you are sitting at a desk or standing behind a counter.

Massaging your Foot

The ligament will tighten while you sleep because you're not using it and you'll want to start loosening it soon after you get up in the morning. This will help your foot feel better throughout the day. If you're like many Americans, you probably check your computer first thing in the morning. Set the can of soup on the floor beneath the computer table and set your foot on it. Press down on the can as you roll it back and forth on the floor. You will feel the ligament stretch as you roll the can. There will be some pain, but it should be manageable. Massage your foot with the can for about five to ten minutes before you continue to start your day. You should also take time during the day to massage your foot as time allows. Finish the day by watching your favorite TV show as you roll the can back and forth. Remember, the more you massage the ligament, the better it will feel.

The actual healing time for plantar fasciitis varies greatly from person to person and you should continue to massage your foot as long as you feel tightness and discomfort. For more information, contact local professionals like Laurel Podiatry Associates, LLC.
