3 Benefits Of Undergoing Surgery At An ASC

Posted on

Undergoing surgery can be expensive when performed in a hospital, especially if a patient has to be admitted for a few days. Sometimes surgical procedures need to be performed in a hospital because of the types of equipment that are needed. However, an alternative to undergoing surgery in a hospital is to have the procedure performed in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC). An ASC is basically a facility that provides the equipment that surgeons need to treat patients without the need for going to a hospital. As you will find out in this article, there are several reasons why you might find going to an ASC more satisfactory than undergoing surgery at a hospital.

1. Avoid the Large Layout of a Hospital

When a surgical procedure is scheduled to be performed in a hospital setting, it can be stressful for a patient. The reason is that most hospitals are large and sometimes consist of more than one building. The stress stems from having to navigate such a large building to find the correct area where the surgical procedure is to be performed. Undergoing a surgical procedure in an ASC is less stressful due to the building being smaller than the typical size of a hospital. You should be able to quickly find the area you need to go to check in for the procedure without doing a lot of walking.

2. Spend Less Money on the Overall Procedure

If you are paying for your surgical procedure partially or fully out of your own pocket, you will appreciate an ASC. The reason is that your procedure is likely to cost less money than what would be charged if it was performed at a hospital. The reduced price is partially due to an ASC needing less money to run the facility. For example, unlike a hospital that must put money towards paying emergency room employees and purchasing certain items, it is not necessary at an ASC. The overall productivity of the staff is also factored in the lower prices charged to patients in comparison to hospitals.

3. A Schedule without Unforeseen Delays

Scheduling a surgical procedure at a hospital comes with the frustration of the appointment possibly getting rescheduled. The reason is that the operating rooms might be occupied to service patients who have come to the emergency room with serious injuries. There is a lower risk of your appointment getting rescheduled if the procedure is performed at an ASC.
